According to The Free Dictionary, the definition of berserker is as follows:
berserker - one of the ancient Norse warriors legendary for working themselves into a frenzy before a battle and fighting with reckless savagery and insane fury
If that’s the case, you better stand clear because with 100 posts on the Digital Point Forums, Spud Oregon has gone from being a simple Grunt to a Berserker! (Yes, it did take me nearly two years).

Question for Comments: Are you a DP member? If so, are you a Grunt, Berserker, or something unbelievable like a Shadow Hunter?
If you’re wondering what that Introductory Guide to Stock Photos link is, let me tell you:
I’m running a little experiment to see if I can monetize a one-page static website. I spent the last two days making a mini-site about getting cheap photos, selling your own pictures, and earning affiliate commission through stock photography websites.
My train of thought when I made it was:
- Make a site in 48 hours. If I can do it quickly, I’m more likely to do it again!
- Make a site that requires no maintenance when finished.
- Provide unique content - in this case, comparing four different services.
- Make every link a potential money earner - affiliate or CPC links.
The tricky step is getting qualified traffic.
Question for Comments: How would you get traffic to a brand new, one-page site?

Gratz on becoming a Berserker, although looking at the definition, I’m not quite sure that’s a good thing :p
Congratz for being a berserker.About the question, for me I would have to say directory submission..I don’t know if the method works for you. Or you can try social bookmarking.
Directory submissions are a great way to get a site off the ground. One reason is they are free, and another reason is they give you more incoming links so the Googlebot can spider your site and get it indexed.
There’s usually a list of free directories floating around in the DP forums, so that’s a good place to start.
It’s obviously important to submit to the big directories, too, it’s just such a shame they take so long to accept submissions.
You could try Google AdWords. You just have to carefully match your keywords to something paying users are likely to be searching for, and word the ad to attract them while turning off the ones looking for freebies. You might want to make “free” a negative keyword so that your ad won’t display for people searching for free stock photos. Just have to be careful not to eliminate the “royalty-free” searchers from the mix!
The next important step is to determine your bid amount. How much will you earn if someone clicks a link and buys something? You have multiple links and probably multiple price points, so what is the average amount of money you will make on the typical purchase?
Let’s say that you will make $50 on average. To start out with, assume a conversion rate of 2% (you can adjust later as you have sales and stats to determine actual conversion rates). 2% of $50 is $1.00. So, your maximum bid on your AdWords ad should be $1.00. That way, on average, you should at least break even with your ad expenditures versus your referral income.
One you have some real stats to work with (and give an ad at least 200 clicks before drawig conclusions), then you can begin to modify and tweak your ad for better performance, or drop non-performing ones. If you get an 8% conversion rate, you might want to raise your AdWords bid to get a higher position, or you might want to experiment with the ad to see if you can improve those results.
As evidenced by the last paragraph, I failed to take my own advice. Geesh.
Should be:
Thanks dcr, I appreciate the detail in your comment.
I’ve been using Adwords successfully on some other sites for the last last year and a half. A carefully planned Adwords campaign can do wonders for a site, and I will definitely give it a go on this new mini-site of mine.
The key here is “qualified” traffic. Outside of Adwords (and other PPC’s) there is no better way to get qualified traffic provided you have the proper keywords. If the site is converting well then I think you have a great winner here. 48 hours to set up the site, another 48 hours to set up the PPC campaign, make money, rinse and repeat.

Spud, I didn’t know you have post 100 post in the DP already. More link power to you:)
About 95 of those posts were made in the latter part of 2005!
About the traffic and Adwords…I didn’t try this, but I know the guy who has good results with putting his adwords with other, not so known search engines. Then he drives traffic from there to his static pages and lures people with Google Adwords. Simple.
The bid difference is big, so it’s possible to earn, but you should have many static pages. And since you said you have no problem with that…
Congrats on being a psycho, LOL.
100 posts on a forum? I can barely find the time to write in my own blog, haha. I’m envious of your time management, hehe.
Congrats on reaching “Berserker” status. I’m sitting pretty on “Tauren” (510 posts) at the moment.
Steve
510 posts is a lot, but it’s worth it if you learn as much as you give. These guys with over 10,000 posts would surely have been better off writing for their own blogs… however, saying that, the DP big boys are pretty famous on those boards and build up their own fan base
Huh… that’s funny Spud. I’ve never seen you at Digital Point forums… I am a grunt with 61 posts by the way.
