If you ever visit the front page of Nice4Rice, you’ll see I’ve added an “Incoming Rice” section. Keeping with the spirit of being nice for traffic, I went looking for a Wordpress plugin which would show the sites that link here, allowing me to return the link love in a nanosecond (or as quickly as it takes Google Blog Search to detect the backlinks).
Quite frankly, I’m not going to bow to the search engines and be stingy with outgoing links. You already know you can get a backlink here by giving rice or leaving a comment (thanks to the Do Follow plugin). Now, the most recent bloggers to link here will automatically get a backlink from the Nice4Rice front page.
The plugin I found to perform this little magic trick is Who Link Here, put together and made available on a blog I can’t read: Artux’s Blog. Many thanks to Artux!
The Who Link Here plugin gives you the option of pulling in your links from Technorati or Google Blog Search. Getting your incoming links from Technorati requires an API key, a term I still don’t fully understand. Anyway, this pushed me into choosing the Google Blog Search option which works very nicely.
If you’ve never checked your incoming links in Google’s BS, you should try it!
- Go to Google Blog Search
- Type link:http://www.yourblog.com
If you decide to you use Who Link Here on your own blog, be aware that I edited it quite heavily to get it looking how I wanted. The original presentation is labelled with either Google or Technorati logos.
What do you think? Is this something you’d like to use on your own blog, or is it just plain ugly and pointless? Is it an effective tool for getting backlinks, or just a lazy way to return link love?
Update: I figured out the API stuff and I’ve switched to Technorati instead of Google Blog Search because Technorati seems to recognize more incoming links. Aug. 27th 2007.

You have the most interesting color scheme for a blog I have seen thus far! You are definitely unique. Thanks for the tip about Google, going to check it now.
Thanks! I picked these colors myself!
I was looking for some ways on how to get free backlinks and I come across your site/blog. You have a wonderful blog and a very generous offer. I have not read all the posts though but I definitely spend some time to read all the post because I am sure that I will gain a lot of knowledge from your site/blog.
