Too Nice for Rice

May 16th, 2007 by Spud Oregon

As I write this, I’m relaxing in my study, listening to some classic jazz with the lights down low, pondering the future of Nice4Rice.com.

I’ve had some wonderful feedback in the time I’ve been writing these reviews, and I do intend to continue, but I feel I’ve been sidetracked over the last few weeks.

The About page was one of the first things I wrote for this blog, and it’s where I outlined my reasons for starting Nice4Rice.

I decided to start my own blog about computing, the internet, and how to make money from it. It’s common knowledge that if you don’t write about something you’re passionate about, you’ll either give up or get bored of working on your own site!

With that in mind, I want to get back to reviewing sites that really appeal to me. So many people have written about Nice4Rice, and I’ve tried to return the favor by reviewing them, but I feel somewhat pressured into writing about those sites instead of the blogs I really love.

That’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed the blogs I’ve reviewed so far. The problem is, I’m getting so many review requests that I can’t, and don’t really want to, keep up!

I really appreciate every backlink, review, email, RSS subscription, bookmark, MyBlogLog message, Technorati fave, and comment, from so many thoughtful people, but it’s time I to start writing because I want to, not because I feel I have to. Hopefully, my regular readers will appreciate that.

Hey man, write about what you want. You’re a nice guy and I respect whatever decision that you make. Like you said, if you’re not writing about something that you are truly passionate about you will give up. So write with passion Spud! I don’t want to see you give up. Once a week, twice a week, whatever is fine. I’m just glad I’ve been able to find some really good blogs through this service you are providing. =] Don’t feel pressured, as long as my site gets reviewed some time before the end of the year I’ll be happy. =P Haha just kidding Spud.

Thanks for being such an awesome guy. If you ever need to chat or anything you’ve got my e-mail and MyBlogLog. Hehe

Good luck in everything you do,

Phishie Diaz

It’s your blog first.

Instead of creating reviews, just create a list of blogs/sites that you discovered when surfing or via comments ;). This way, people will know about them and you won’t have to write a reviews every time. Do a batch of 10 once a week or every few days. Try that for while and see if it works or do a one line review(like possible link from a PR6-7 site).

Thanks to you, I discovered AdesBlog.com. I knew about John and Darren.

Yeah, I might do a list, and start throwing up more of my own thoughts and opinions. One of my favorite posts was MyAvatar Stack Overflow Error because it was original, useful, and a change from the usual reviews.

I totally agree with Steve. You want to be nice by linking back to those that linked to you, then just do a weekly backlink list. But the main posts, save them for blogs that you really want to review. Being pressured to review someone else’s blog sucks… especially if you don’t really enjoy their blog.

Spud, I understand what you are saying here. I love your reviews and I have found some new blogs to bookmark and read because of you. Of course, we would all love to get a review from you too because you are quite good at it! But you can’t review everyone. I would enjoy seeing more posts that are just your thoughts and opinions here too.

Right decision at the right time! Nice4Rice is still young, so this decision will reflect positively on the future of the site. Good luck!

More power to you spud - I will enjoy reading reviews of the websites that you enjoy. I am sure others will enjoy them as well.

You provide a great service, and like every other free, great service it gets to the point where you have to start saying no! I don’t think anyone will take offense, there are only so many hours in a day right?
