RJ Matthis, known in these circles as “Bobs”, is one of the few people to use the Wordpress Kubrick theme for his blog, ReformatThis. With all the skills of a Commodore 64 veteran, he has managed to turn that dull default theme into something rather special.
As an IT professional, it’s no surprise that Bobs likes to dabble in PHP and MySql. He is a “user note maintainer” on the php documentation team, has made his own Wordpress plugin, Bob’s Simplistic Navigation, and achieved worldwide recognition with his solution to the tabbing problem in the popular Threaded Comments plugin.
U Comment, I Follow
RJ is also part of the growing “DoFollow” movement: bloggers who are removing the NoFollow tag from their code, so even just leaving a comment will get you a free backlink. This is what Saman Sadeghi had to say on his post “Say Goodbye to the NoFollow Tag“:
The NOFOLLOW tag was created by Google to fight comment spam, it was a great idea but there are so many plugins that fight spam today (like Akismet) that I don’t really think it’s necessary anymore - and there aren’t many spiders that use this tag anyway: if a Yahoo or MSN bot crawls your site, they actually ignore the tag!
Just imagine how quickly you could rise up Technorati’s rankings if you comment on all the “DoFollow” sites! Oh, Nice4Rice is now using one of the plugins listed on Saman’s article, so comment away!
Saman just so happens to be one of RJ’s best friends, which would explain their matching facial hair! And in the spirit of RJ’s hilarious photoshopped picture of his beard buddy, I decided to have a crack at my own edited picture of Bobs. What do you think?
Before:
After:
All jokes aside, Bobs is getting a reputation for some solid website reviews. Unlike here on Nice4Rice, RJ really goes to town, giving credit for the good things and coming down hard on the things that make him cringe. For example:
The first thing I would like to mention is the unfriendly content navigation. When you are reading an individual blog, there is no way to navigate the next or previous one without going back to the main page.
You are advertising a low subscriber rate on your RSS feed. If you have a low rate, maybe you are not interesting?
Thats a huge header!
That last one seems to bother Bobs so much that he even wrote the article, I hate your huge header!
Despite me picking on RJ’s critical side, he is first and foremost a family man, and his blog offers plenty of non-technical, fun for the family entertainment, too. His Easter antics and fascination with SpongeBob Squarepants are good examples. Oh, and don’t miss his Why Men Have Sheds video!
Rice all round for Bobs then, and don’t forget to leave some comments on ReformatThis for another free backlink!

Thank you very much for honoring me with your review!
I have been a fan of your site since I came across it and to have a review on it means a great deal! Your research and writing is very impressive!
P.S.:
On the Photoshop: That just tells me that no matter how much weight I lose I will always have chipmunk cheeks.
A bowl of rice for you Bobs!
Rice 4 U!
[…] Stop the Presses! I was going to post a different kind of announcement today, but that has to take the backseat to some exciting news! I just found out that I received my first site review! And better yet, it was by the site Nice4Rice.com. The review of my site, the photoshop chipmunk creation of my head, and the joking about my critical side can all be seen here: Reformat this Bobs. […]
Wow, Bobs really makes Kubrick look so clean. I am very impressed. Now if you don’t mind, I am gonna head on over to ReformatThis and comment on the I hate your huge header article. =]

Welcome!
Nick.
Awesome! More people joining the DoFollow movement. Hurrah! I myself am using this on my personal Christian blog too. It’s nice to give that little extra incentive for people to post comments.
