My eyes are sore, my day off has disappeared, and now my wife’s giving me that evil look!
That’s what you get for not subscribing to the [Ed]ition earlier, and have to catch up on over 200 articles in one day.
Ed Lau, recovering World of Warcraft raider and Simpson’s impersonator, sucked me into his blog with his post about undiscovered talent on YouTube and MySpace, featuring a video of the incredibly talented, Jeong-Hyun “Freaky Fingers” Lim. Then, after reading Ed’s in-depth comparison of British car shows, I started reminiscing about Top Gear, a show I haven’t seen in over ten years, and took some time out to play Grand Turismo on my trusty PS2.
Back to the blog, I started reading Ed’s interview with John Chow and ended up looking through Chow’s own blog, particularly his “diary” posts from the early days. Feeling inspired, I went in search of what Ed could offer on the topic of blogging and found two of his recent articles to be particularly good.
In “The Benefits of Blogging“, Ed lists five reasons why blogging is good for you.
I’ve been asked several times since the beginning of my blog why I bother. What are the benefits of doing so and why isn’t it just a waste of time? While the unspeakable riches, fame and women are certainly good reasons, I have to say that the most important reasons for blogging are personal and mostly intellectual, although I do quite enjoy it when the ladies throw their undergarments at me everywhere I go.
My personal favorite is his second point about keeping sharp and informed. For example, I wouldn’t have known about jello wrestling if I hadn’t read the [Ed]ition.
Ed’s article on the importance of being first, in which he describes how he ranks highly for the search term Dozo Izakaya Richmond, the new Japanese restaurant outside his house, is inspiring. The restaurant itself doesn’t have a website, so people looking for a review will mostly like find Ed’s. It’s interesting he should mention that Japanese dining isn’t the same without alcohol - the restaurant has yet to get a liquor license - because here in Japan, I have no choice but to drive to my nearest izakaya, and I know exactly what you mean!!!
The [Ed]ition claims to be ”100% of your daily recommended intake of awesome”. I certainly enjoyed reading through it today, and look forward to more. Right now though, I better get my daily recommended intake of my wife, before she makes me sleep on the couch.
