I was asked to review Elegant Technology, a blog about design - “clean, uncluttered design” as the owner pale_whites puts it. I wasn’t too keen at first because so many of the articles are about Apple products, and I’ve never owned, used or even seen a Mac or an iPod in action. While you might pity me, reading through the blog has tempted me a little to dip into Steve Jobs’ sack of toys.
Naturally the first article I looked at was Mac vs. PC, that much debated topic brought up time and time again by Mac users. Pale Whites is understandably biased towards his beloved Mac. After all, he’s been a user since 1987. He does however seem to be in a good position to compare his OS X operating system with Windows XP since the latter is what he uses all day, every day at work. Of the Mac, he says…
I really get the feeling that I control it and not the other way around.
My Mac does not crash period, whereas my PC does so on many occasions. Is this because Windows is more deeply rooted in it’s wicked past than the Mac OS?
I can’t agree entirely with his comments about Windows crashing so frequently. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Clearly people do have problems with Windows though, otherwise there would be no meaning to this Japanese commercial for the Mac…
Funnily enough, Apple have really been pushing these ads in Japan lately. This is just one of a series. I think it has something to do with the fact that 99.9% of Japanese think of “Mac” as a hamburger restaurant.
There is a lot more to Elegant Technology than just a PC-Mac comparison though. As the title of the blog suggests, you can find numerous articles on design, including Steve Jobs and the case of the ‘RoundRect’, and Minimalism as a Lifestyle. I’d recommend Elegant Technology if you’re interested in the appearance of electronics, cars, bikes, furniture or even spectacles. Otherwise, this may be one for Apple fans only.
Thanks Kevin. The main reason for making my own theme was to incorporate the voting. It was much easier to start from a blank theme than to try and edit an existing one… and believe me I tried!
MistyLook is great, but with thousands of themes out there, why don’t people go for something a bit different?
If you really want to do it Kelly, you’ll find a way!
Looks like Elegant Technology has changed its theme…
After reading some feedback on this website regarding the MistyLook theme, and how common it was, I set about trying to find an alternative. Although MistyLook is clean, I felt I wanted a Wordpress theme that went further; a theme that was more minimal.
One of the best things about blogging is how someone who’s really into something can totally spin gold from straw.
The Elegant Technology guy LOVES the colour white. The Mac fixation and even the whole design bent tend to play second fiddle to his ‘white fetish’ throughout the blog. Sure they intersect, but at the end of the day, I love the fact that someone is managing to write a decent blog on ‘stuff that’s white’
Apple Inc is Phenomenon… He make something useful ^_*
It is a very clean looking site … but I wish it had a bit more content.
Definitely clean and uncluttered. Wordpress should make MistyLook the new default theme, it seems to be everywhere these days.
I love how you’ve created your own unique look for Nice4Rice, it gives the site so much more personality than using a common theme.

I wish I was computer-literate like you… then I’d design from scratch cuz I pretty much have the exact layout in mind… just can’t do it myself! =(
