Culture Shiok! has been dishing out rice willy-nilly lately, so I figured I would reward him with a review of his blog Culture Shiok! A day in the life of an OFW in Singapore. An OFW is an Overseas Filipino Worker, but who exactly is Culture Shiok?
In a nutshell, he’s a single, yet involved, 28 year old, movie-loving, Filipino veterinarian, working in Singapore, who also likes gardening and the color green. He also describes himself as a Technorati wannabe who gave up on blogging for money because he wasn’t getting any! In a strange twist of fate however, he decided to just blog for the fun of it, and is now seeing the dosh roll in!
Like CS, I also work abroad and blog about my experiences living in a foreign country, so we have a fair bit in common. Things that we now take for granted are often fascinating to readers who have never experienced the cultures that Culture Shiok! and myself live in. For example, do you know how safe Singapore is from earthquakes? Did you know about all the suicides in Singapore’s open-air train stations?
Culture Shiok! is still true to his native country, and is quick to point out how little advertising there is in Singapore for the Philippines as a tourist destination. In his post Let’s Travel to the Philippines, he lists some of the wonderful things his home country has to offer.
Whether or not you’re interested in Singapore, it’s worthwhile taking a look at Culture Shiok! It was voted Filipino blog of the week, and CS has implemented some interesting ways to monetize and promote his site, including the “Snap” link preview tool and links to numerous blog directories. You can get more tips from his post What I did to get a higher ranking at Technorati. Oh, and don’t forget to give him some rice… he spends all his money on rent!

Thanks for the great review Spud!
You did well. It’s not easy to write something about a little known Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) ….whatever!
Hope to get more rice! I’m Asian, I’m a Filipino!
I eat rice for breakfast!
Ahh! The ‘W’ stands for Worker? I was looking at your sidebar where it says “Overseas Filipino Whatevers: The Not-so-secret Lives of Pinoys Abroad”. Sorry!
It’s alright…
Hi Culture Shiok!
OK, I voted. The first time, I didn’t realize that my vote wasn’t saved properly… I think it’s because my Description was too long, because the second time I tried to vote, I got “Your site’s description must be between 10 and 110 characters long.”…. which I didn’t correct.
Alright, I think it got saved now. A bowl of rice!
I’ve now corrected my mistake with “OFW”.
haha! i had to chop, then chop again my blog’s description. that gives you something to fill in with the rice. chop chop… good luck!
Way to go, Culture Shiok!
